Pre/Post- Exposure Prophylaxis
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is medication taken before a potential exposure to greatly reduce the risk of acquiring HIV, while post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) is an emergency medication that must be started within 72 hours after a possible exposure—the sooner, the better. Some healthcare providers and telehealth services may prescribe up to a 90-day supply of PrEP, depending on eligibility and required follow-up testing.
